Once, I was thinking of arranging for a panel about `Dialogue between Muslims and Christians `but while I was thinking and preparing, a host of Ideas came to my mind and raised the following questions. Why we don’t start with ourselves? speak to each other with open minds, though we may disagree on some points.` Islamists` meet with `Nationalists`,and `Arab` talk to `Black Africans` and so on...All might be oppressed by the former regimes, but all belong to one nation, even though they came from different races or ethnic groups. Yet, Mauritania is a unique country in the sub-region or even in the world, since Islam is unifying the nation.

Since he assumes power, president Sidi.O.Cheikh Abdellahi tends to think about the necessity of the national unity. He called for refugees to come back home .Parliament has adopted a law that regards slavery as a crime. No one can opposes such affirmative steps, but it’s worth mentioning that such laws and decisions are not enough .One can say that slavery was officially abolished, decades ago at the hand of the ex-president Med Khouna O.Heidalla, so what needs to be cured is the social consequences.
Former slaves should be educated and financially aided. The society must open its arms for them. Moreover, It should remain a national Issue away from the capture of the country’s enemies who seek only for dividing the nation and realize their personal aims. As for refugees, all have agreed that they should be home, but only Mauritanians are welcome. Others must stay where they are.

Furthermore, our `Black` brothers must bear in minds that they are Mauritanians and they should very well understand the real meaning of being so. They must be loyal to our beloved Mauritania, not anyone else. All agreed with the president when he has called for refugees to get back home and regarding slavery as a crime. Yet, many would disagree with the president when he attempted to sum up the Mauritanian scourges in the issues of Slavery or Refugees. The president might forget that many other Mauritanians had been terribly oppressed by the former governments and they were belonging to various ethnics groups and Ideologies as well, but unfortunately no one says a word about them. All must have their rights back and the state should confess that many had oppressed and It’s time for national reconciliation, forgiveness as basic conditions for national unity and political stability.

The President had promised to bring social justice and to fight against corruption and upgrade people’s attitudes...but none of those was achieved. The majority of the people still very poor and many of them is on the verge of starvation, because they are deprived from having their shares in the national cake, while small minority enjoy their lives in a very prosperous realm. Corruptions Icons remain in their seats, embezzling the wealthy of the nation, while their brothers died of hunger and diseases. Citizens’ situation became worst and when they marched to demonstrate for the legitimate and civic rights, death was their luck (the case of Barkeiwel murder, a hero of national interest).

The nation is so much in need of its national reconciliation for better stability. The state must rapidly, take steps to improve people’s social and economic situation. The public money embezzlers should be eliminated if not penalized. The national unity must be strengthened .Otherwise, the country’s stability would remain in risk, and Mauritanians would have no options ,but to say what the Nigerian novelist states in his book `Arrows of Rain` ``A time shall come when those who today sit on the heads of others will themselves be called to account``

WHY CONDEMNING ONLY IRAN NUCLEAR POTENTIAL? By Abou

America has always been viewed as a model for international peace and democracy. However since the infamous September 11 attack, universally condemned by Muslims: the Bush administration has developed strategies which are considered hostile by the Muslims world wide. Iraq was attacked without international mandate, likewise Afghanistan. The Bush administration failed to realize and still failing to realize that no nation, whatsoever and howsoever powerful it might be, can be able to overcome an Islamic resistance group.

Islam is a religion of peace, friendship and tolerance, which is why it condemns violence. Nowadays, the Western World including America regard Muslims as evil doers while in immemorial time, Christians were the people that caused havoc all over Europe and beyond in their infamous ‘ crusades ‘ against the Muslims and infanticides wars fought between themselves. What is completely complex at the moment is the issue of the Iranian nuclear programme which the Bush administration has been thundering loud and still thundering universally. Muslims as a whole support the complete eradication of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction but there are some countries still in possession of these dangerous weapons. Nuclear weapons are bad, as I have often asked the American government, but why is it still having them? Israel is a nuclear nation likewise some Judaeo-Christian countries.

What is wrong if Iran has or is in the process of developing nuclear weapons since it is under threat from Israel and above all, from America ? Pakistan and India are also nuclear nations but they have not been condemned fiercely like Iran .China and Russia has nuclear weapons but North Korea is been condemned fort possessing them. North Korea has once, through international mandate issued by the United Nations has been attacked. Several thousands of bombs of all types were thrown on the communist nation but still the people stood bravely in defence of their fatherland and they achieved universal glory.

The Bush administration fails to realize that the Iranians are not Arabs. They and the Germans, likewise the Russians, majority of the citizens of the Indo-Pak Sub continent, those of Central Asia and beyond belong to the same Aryan nation who are warlike in nature. The Persians or Iranians have attacked many European countries during the medieval period and they never withdraw from their opponents. The Bush administration has to engage into dialogue with the Iranian authorities in order to find a peaceful solution to the nuclear conflict.

As Israel and other countries which regard Islam indifferently has nuclear weapons, so it is the right of the Iranian people to have nuclear weapons, too. Gone are the days when nations used to be under the yoke of imperialists forces. Some days ago, Iranian boats went into conflict with American war ships in the Strait of Ormuz . As Muslims, we do not want any conflict because in war, there are casualties on both sides. Islam is against the killing of innocent people. The world should be in peace. Great Empires have come and gone but still the world remains. Adolph Hitler, a native of Central Asia, tried to conquer the other European countries but was defeated, so whomsoever powerful a nation might be, it will one day meet its target. Muslims in general want to live peacefully. An attack on Iran will cause a world conflict more especially in the Middle East.

America should set a bright example by destroying her nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction. By doing so, other countries will follow suit. How can it be possible for Iran to stop her nuclear programme when it is under threat? Since the late Ayatollah Khomeini took power in 1979, America has always been at loggerhead with Iran because her friend, the Shah was deposed. There are Iranians in America likewise there are Americans in Iran. So it is better for peaceful dialogue to take place between the two countries. America is a generous country and no country can say it has not tasted its benevolence but it should change her foreign policy which is viewed hostile by many countries around the world. All countries have the right to exists peacefully. No country has the right to control another country.
There is no big or small president. All presidents or leaders are equal in status. The Bush administration has to engage into dialogue with the Iranian authorities. Nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction should be abolished worldwide. If some countries have them for their defence, then other countries have the right to have them too for their defence. America is a model for peace and democracy, so the Bush or the incoming administration should open a new chapter in their foreign policy. The Muslim world needs America for their cultural, economic and diplomatic ties. Peace is then the motto of Islam not war.
